This mixed media collage is created with fabric scraps of African fabric (chitenje) and acrylic paint. You can see an African lady meditating - she is removing stress, searching for revelations, visualizing good things to come, or reducing emotional confusion. The inspiration behind this artwork is to inspire women to meditate.
Meditation is painted on a printed fabric surface. This art piece is created with the vision of spreading the importance of taking time to meditate and listen to your inner voice.
This masterpiece is created using printed fabric pieces and acrylic paint in a mixed media style. It expresses the facial pose and mood of someone recalling something good happening in the past.
East, west.. Home is best. You can travel or stay somewhere away from home, village, or town, but one day you will think of going back home for good. The creation of this African mix media collage artwork was inspired as a surprise to the former European Deputy Ambassador to Malawi when she was planning on going back to her home country.
In the artwork, you can see a lady who once was away from Africa, thinking back on her memories of the African village.
African ladies/girls put on African printed fabric as a headband. The material called chitenje can also be used as a skirt or be made into lovely dresses for women and shirts or trousers for men.
Tailors in African communities use this fabric to design clothes, and often they have leftover fabric scraps that are being dumped. I managed to collect some of this scrap to create this artwork.
You can see a woman in a chitenje headwrap. It was really enjoyable to recycle chitenje fabric scraps and create an African artwork out of it!
In Malawi, as in many other countries, you find orphan kids on the street who struggle to make ends meet. They are often left to themselves in a hopeless life. They are in need of food, clothes, shelter, education, and a safe environment.
Some of these kids grow up and turn to violence, robbery, or drug abuse. Others manage to keep the hope alive by trusting that one day their life will change.
This African street kid is struggling, but he still has hope.
A visitor is thinking back to the African village she visited and longs for the tranquility experienced there.
A true smile is what makes you beautiful! This surreal painting tries to capture the mixture of true beauty through a smile and the happiness that is represented by the butterfly.
One day I was in a very happy mood and got inspired to paint. The first thought that came into my mind was a butterfly. I started painting this artwork with no vision of how it would look when finished, but the road was made as I went.
Painted in 2020, the street kids in Blantyre inspired this artwork. Amongst these street kids are orphans and kids from impoverished families. They have no one to pay their school fees and depend on begging to fill their stomachs.
This is the painting of a boy living a hard life, but he still has hope.
This artwork is created purely from chitenje fabric scraps collected from tailors in the neighborhood. The fabric would normally have been disposed of, but now it is turned into a beautiful piece of art.
This artwork is currently for sale.
