Everest Mike is an African Malawian visual artist born on 22. July 1997 in the capital city Lilongwe. Here is his story:
"I started doing art as a little boy, around the age of four. My mother Hopstill, who was a teacher, used to teach me stick figures and some other illustrations while teaching me English and French. I kept on sketching and drawing the shole of my primary and secondary level. In standard five my father Mr. Mike sometimes taught me cartoon drawing and school illustration so I could improve at school. Whilst at secondary I used to read art books like History of Art, and Designing and Printing Basics. In 2017, soon after completing the Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), I started working with various artists. During the next two years I learned a lot from them. Then I met Andrew Missi, my mentor and art father. He passionately helped me during my year with him, where I greatly improved in professional art developing my own styles and techniques.
I believe in hard work, creativity, and passion. I am proud of being a visual artist. I love art. Since I started, I have never regretted my path in life.
I love to share art knowledge and skills with others who share my passion. To be an international visual artist is one of my goals."
"This is the true art studio in which my talent was professionally born. It is located in Nchilande township in Blantyre. I moved from my original home to spend days and nights in this studio, sleeping on a mat amongst all the art supplies. The nights were uncomfortable, and I woke up many times making the nights and days overlap, and I continued my work no matter what time of the day-night it was."
